So you want to know what you can eat right? Every gout sufferer needs some gout diet recipes. Whether a veteran sufferer of many years meaning they haven’t figured out Gout Diet Recipesthe whole gout thing yet. Or if you’re a gout newbie regardless of experience people want to know what they can eat.

The simple fact is that having a few gout diet recipes under your belt is useful, but is not enough to keep gout away.

There is a huge difference between what we think is food today and what was understood to be food thirty or forty years ago. These days our modern lifestyles are very hectic and we have kinda been bought up to understand that food comes in cans, packets and jars. It is usual for us to buy frozen ready made things from the supermarket because that is simply what we grew up watching our parents, and people on TV do.

Food companies spend billions every year trying to get people to buy their ready made products, and as a result we are conditioned into understanding that these things are real food.

However, and I don’t want to get into a big rant here and wave the `go raw, eat organic’ flag, these pre-packaged food stuffs are very different from anything you make yourself from basic ingredients.

Cooking and storing alter foods dramatically and the nutrient properties get changed too. Raw foods have lots of very beneficial enzymes and bacteria living on them which are essential for good digestion and a healthy immune system – none of these are present in premade meals from supermarkets FYI

A word of warning though – to really get on top of your gout and beat it out of your life you shouldn’t rely on just gout diet recipes, instead you should expand your understanding about what you put in your mouth and how this affects your body!

Before we get to all the gout recipes, you have to think about what it is you regularly eat. There are hundreds, if not thousands of books out there about what to eat to stay healthy and boost your body’s immune system, etc. But all of these books and websites are really just a response to the fact that these days billions of people everyday eat fast food, junk food and other foodstuffs rather than eating real food.

Real food is stuff made from basic ingredients like meat, fruit, vegetables and spices.

The toxic stuff served up at fast food joints has so many things in there that most people can’t even pronounce or spell and certainly wouldn’t recognise as food.

So the answer really is to invest your time and effort into your diet and your health.

Gout Diet Recipes

Carrot, Sweet Potato, and Ginger Curry Soup

The Ingredients ~

2 teaspoons coconut oil
1/2 cup chopped shallots
3 cups (1/2-inch) cubed peeled sweet potato
1 1/2 cups (1/4-inch) sliced peeled carrots
1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
2 teaspoons curry powder (mild or hot)
3 cups chicken broth – preferably home made if possible or bought from a good deli
1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Preparation ~

Heat the coconut oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the shallots; gently fry for 3 minutes or until tender. Add potato, carrots, ginger, and curry; cook for 2 minutes. Add broth; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 25 minutes or until vegetables are tender; stir in the salt.

Pour half of soup in a food processor; pulse until smooth, then repeat with the remainder.

Gout Hostile Waldorf Salad

Ingredients ~

Wash all fruit & vegetables first!
2 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
2  small (Gala or Fuji) apples, cubed
1 cup seedless red grapes, halved
1/3 cup dried organic cranberries
1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1/4 cup thinly sliced celery (about 1 stalk)
8  Boston or Bibb lettuce leaves

Preparation ~

First, combine mayonnaise and lemon juice in a medium bowl. Add apples, grapes, and cranberries; mix well.

Next,  add the walnuts and celery, and mix well. Serve it on a bed of 2 lettuce leaves. This salad will keep in the fridge for 2 hours before you serve it, but is best made fresh.

Warm Goat Cheese & Eggplant Sandwiches

Ingredients ~

1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
2  (1/4-inch) vertical slices small eggplant
Cooking spray – I use olive oil that I have poured into a spray bottle (much cheaper and healthier than the store bought stuff)
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup soft goat cheese
2  (1 1/2-ounce) rustic sandwich rolls
2  (1/4-inch) slices tomato (if tomato is your trigger then substitute cucumber here)
1 cup arugula

Preparation ~

Preheat oven to 275°.

Brush eggplant lightly with oil.

Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat. Add eggplant; cook until lightly browned on each side. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Spread about 1 tablespoon of goat cheese over the cut side of each roll half. Place the rolls on a baking sheet, cheese sides up; bake at 275° for 8 to 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

Remove from oven; place 1 eggplant slice, 1 tomato slice, and 1/2 cup arugula on top of the cheese. Put on the other half of the sandwich roll.

Mediterranean Crostini ~ So Simple!

Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped plum tomatoes – fresh not canned
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon chopped pitted green olives
1 teaspoon capers
1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon olive oil
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Dash of freshly ground black pepper
1  garlic clove, minced
4  (1-inch-thick) slices French bread baguette
Olive oil cooking spray
1  garlic clove, halved

Preparation ~

Preheat oven to 375º.

Mix the first 9 ingredients.

Lightly coat both sides of bread slices with cooking spray; arrange bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake  until lightly toasted.

Rub 1 side of bread slices with halved garlic (skip this bit if you’re a vampire!); top evenly with tomato mixture.

Succulent Roasted Chicken

Yeah, yeah chicken has purines in it – but you’ve got to eat something right? Not all gout diet recipes are anti-purine.

Ingredients ~

2  lemons, thinly sliced
6  fresh sage leaves
1  (6-pound) chicken
3 teaspoons olive oil, divided
3/4 pound parsnips (you can substitute sweet potatoes, butternut squash or pumpkin if in season), peeled and trimmed
3/4 pound carrots, peeled and trimmed
1/2 pound turnips, peeled and trimmed
1 pound small potatoes, halved
2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme

Preparation  ~

1. Preheat oven to 425°. Place 6 lemon slices and sage leaves under the skin of the chicken. Put remaining lemon into cavity. Tie the chicken legs together with twine (make sure it’s not plastic!), and tuck wings under. Brush 1 teaspoon of oil over the chicken. Place chicken in roasting pan; roast in lower third of oven for 1 hour 15 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer registers 165°. Transfer the chicken to a cutting board; and let rest for 15 minutes.

2. While the chicken is resting, chop all root vegetables into matchstick size pieces. Toss with potatoes in a baking pan with remaining oil and thyme. Roast, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes or until tender. (you can add a little sugar if you want to caramelize the vegetables).

3. Take off the chicken skin. Remove lemons from cavity. Slice enough chicken to serve 4 (such as breasts), and serve with half of vegetables.

Spicy, Fresh Zucchini Spaghetti

This is one of my favourite of all the gout diet recipes and other vegetables like carrot or eggplant.

Ingredients ~

3/4 pound uncooked spaghetti, (whole wheat is better)
1  (7-ounce) can chipotle chillies in adobo sauce
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves minced garlic
4 cups shredded zucchini (about 1 1/4 pounds) (use a vegetable peeler here to get it all extra thin!)
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons shaved Parmesan cheese

Preparation ~

Cook the pasta according to package directions.

Remove 1 chile (the bigger it is the spicier the recipe) and 1 tablespoon sauce from can (save the remaining sauce for another use).

Remove seeds from the chile if you want it mild, leave them in for spicy goodness!

Mince the chile.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over a medium-high heat. Add chile, sauce, and garlic; and lightly fry for 1 minute.

Add the shredded zucchini; and cook, stirring constantly to avoid it burning for around 4 minutes.

Toss the cooked pasta with zucchini mixture.

Sprinkle over the salt, pepper, and cheese.

Watermelon & Feta salad – So simple!

Ingredients ~

½ a watermelon, peeled, deseeded and cut into chunks
200g block of feta cheese, chopped into cubes
A large handful of black olives
Handful flat-leaf parsley and mint leaves, roughly chopped
1 red onion, finely sliced into rings
Olive oil and balsamic vinegar, to serve

Preparation ~

In a large serving bowl, lightly toss together the feta, melon and olives. Sprinkle over the herbs and onion rings, then serve with the olive oil and balsamic for drizzling over. Super fast and easy gout hostile food!

Kale & Apple Smoothie

Ingredients ~

 

  • 3/4 cup chopped kale, ribs and thick stems removed
  • 1 small stalk celery, chopped
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 1/2 a cup of organic apple juice
  • 1/2 a cup of ice
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

Preparation ~

1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend until smooth and frothy and drink!
